Indonesia – XLSMART, ASTRAtech Launch 5G Autonomous Drone for Manufacturing.

PT XLSMART Telekom Sejahtera (XLSMART), through its initiative ‘XLSMART for BUSINESS,’ is enhancing its role in promoting digital transformation within Indonesia’s manufacturing sector. In collaboration with ASTRAtech, XLSMART for BUSINESS has introduced a new 5G-based innovation: the Autonomous Drone for Goods Delivery. This drone is designed to streamline and expedite logistics processes in manufacturing.

The launch event took place at the ASTRAtech Campus in Cikarang and was attended by representatives from the Astra Group. This event also highlighted the partnership between XLSMART for BUSINESS and ASTRAtech to create a digital ecosystem driven by innovative technology. The initiative aims to tackle various real-world challenges, such as workforce shortages, limited distribution access, and the need for improved efficiency in time and costs.

Feby Sallyanto, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at XLSMART, stated:

“The Autonomous Drone solution emphasizes XLSMART for BUSINESS’s commitment to fostering the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy ecosystem, notably in the manufacturing sector. This solution directly addresses common distribution constraints faced by manufacturers, including employment restrictions, delivery route difficulties, and the urgent need for time and cost efficiency.”

Sallyanto further explained, “By integrating 5G connectivity with autonomous flight technology, we create a smart delivery system that is not only quick and efficient, but also secure and easy to monitor. We believe that our approach will reduce carbon footprints while increasing manufacturing productivity in Indonesia.”

The Autonomous Drone for Goods Delivery is specifically designed for logistics in the manufacturing industry, where speed and efficiency are vital. Its deployment can lower shipping costs, speed up inter-facility distribution, and reach areas that are hard to access by traditional land transport. This innovative solution is entirely developed in Indonesia, adhering to national standards for Domestic Component Level (TKDN). It not only accelerates digital transformation across industries but also strengthens national technological independence and enhances Indonesia’s competitiveness on a global scale.

The Autonomous Drone for Goods Delivery incorporates advanced technologies that deliver significant benefits to users. Through its route management via a dashboard, users can plan, monitor, and adjust delivery routes in real time, ensuring more organized and efficient operations, particularly for inter-factory deliveries or shipments to remote distribution centers. Its live camera streaming over 5G enables real-time video monitoring of items during transit, enhancing security, improving visibility throughout the distribution chain, and allowing quicker responses to any incidents.

With fully autonomous flight, the drone can deliver goods from origin to destination without human intervention, reducing labor, fuel, and operational time, an advantage especially valuable to manufacturing sectors that require frequent or high-volume deliveries. Finally, its precision landing with computer vision technology ensures accurate identification of delivery points and safe landings, securing packages and facilitating receipt even in crowded or restricted spaces.

This AI and IoT-based smart solution was developed by X-CAMP, XLSMART’s innovation lab focused on artificial intelligence and IoT solutions for digital transformation across various industries, with research support from ASTRAtech and BETA UAS, the drone manufacturer. The solution was inspired by challenges faced by one of Astra’s manufacturing subsidiaries in managing material transfers during production. Following development, it is now suitable for widespread use across different manufacturing companies.

Henri Paul, Director of ASTRAtech, expressed hope that the collaboration between ASTRAtech and XLSMART for BUSINESS will continue to evolve, providing smart drone solutions that meet industry needs not only in manufacturing but also in sectors like infrastructure, logistics, construction, agribusiness, heavy equipment, mining, and property, particularly within the Astra Group ecosystem.

“We hope this initiative becomes a step forward for technological innovation in Indonesia, and also for the development of outstanding student competencies in line with the ASTRAtech Dual System,” added Paul.

The launch of this solution aligns with Indonesia’s National Agenda for Strengthening Industry 4.0 Implementation, where digitalization, automation, and connectivity are crucial for enhancing national industrial competitiveness. The Autonomous Drone for Goods Delivery is expected to play a vital role in developing a flexible, adaptive, and sustainable digital supply chain.
