Luxembourg – OQ Technology and UDS Sign MoU to Pioneer 5G Satellite Connectivity for Defense Drones.

OQ Technology, the world’s first global satellite 5G operator, and Unmanned Defense Systems UAB (UDS), a leading Lithuanian developer of unmanned defense platforms, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on integrating 5G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) connectivity via LEO satellites into defense drone systems.

The partnership combines OQ Technology’s LEO satellite fleet delivering Direct-to-Device (D2D) and IoT 5G NTN connectivity over MSS S-band and upper C-band, with UDS’s advanced unmanned aerial defense systems. Together, the companies will develop solutions that enhance secure communications, resilience, and global operational reach for defense drones.

Defense Value of 5G NTN for Drones

Modern defense missions increasingly rely on drones for surveillance, reconnaissance, logistics, and tactical operations. However, terrestrial networks are often unavailable or vulnerable in remote, hostile, or contested environments. By enabling drones with satellite-based 5G NTN connectivity, OQ Technology and UDS aim to: – Provide beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) secure communications for military drones. – Ensure real-time data transmission and command links in critical missions. – Deliver global coverage to extend defense operations into remote and denied areas. – Strengthen resilience against communication disruptions, ensuring mission continuity. – Optimize the sensor-to-shooter chain, enabling swarm deployment and integrated command systems.

Leadership Comments

Vytenis J. Buzas, CEO of UDS, added: “Drones are a cornerstone of modern defense, and connectivity is critical to their effectiveness. Partnering with OQ Technology allows us to integrate advanced satellite 5G NTN capabilities into our platforms, ensuring that defense forces can operate securely and efficiently in any environment.”

Omar Qaise, Founder & CEO of OQ Technology, said: “This collaboration with UDS marks an important milestone in bringing our Direct-to-Device 5G NTN connectivity to the defense sector. By empowering drones with secure and global satellite 5G, we are enabling the future of resilient and intelligent defense operations.”
